Comments for "Which t-shirt should we make? Obama or Ikea?"

  1. make both? the ikea one gets you more visual pop, but the obama-change has the more cultural relevance. just my take.

    goodtogo    Nov 18, 03:58 PM
  2. i always spell it “chyea”

lebron hubbard    Nov 18, 06:15 PM
  3. lebron: Then you spell it different than everyone else.

Well. I’d say the first one. Not because I’m a huge Obama-fan. (I’m far more to the left, so don’t worry, no McCain.) It’s just a lot more pretty than the Ikea, although I live right next to their home land.

  4. I dig both, but I feel like anything Obama-related feels a little tired.
I’m with goodtogo, the Ikea motif is more visually arresting.

    AaronM    Nov 18, 08:07 PM
  5. I also think that there is a rather big chance that the t-shirt will be a bit “out of date”, when this whole Obama-fanatism is over.

    polkaface    Nov 18, 08:17 PM
  6. Fuck Ikea! The store is way to big, it leads you around so you have to see every product they got and then once you bring the shit home it’s hard as hell to put together. I was trying to put shelves together from there and I had to make my own holes! Make my own holes? Come on. Obama all the way. We are Americans now.

Moe Clezie    Nov 18, 08:43 PM
  7. The Obama design is a little esoteric, the import might get lost outside the States. The IC’s are after all, an international phenom.

    bigdubbs    Nov 18, 08:45 PM
  8. With all due respect, I think you should go back to the drawing board with these designs.
Obamamania is on its way out and just the thought of Ikea frustrates me to no end.

    Jay B    Nov 19, 02:50 AM
  9. Haha! Obama Design ftw!

Chachu Clothing    Nov 19, 03:31 AM
  10. Jay B has a point here. I think you need something more original and true to the Oh Word life…

    J-Mass    Nov 19, 05:15 PM
  11. goodtogo: I like that idea but we’re using a high quality screen printer where we need to buy shirts in advance of selling them. So for now we’re gonna go with one. If this succeeds then maybe later on we’ll incorporate the second or other designs.

lebron: tomato, tomato, lets call the whole thing off.

bigdubbs: it’s all one big world now.. didnt you see europe, kenya, the mid-east going nuts when obama won? it was like the end of return of the jedi.. every planet was partying.

Moe: That is truly a harrowing tale. I’m with you on the Obama shirt all the way.

    Jay and J: Hi haters!

“Obamamania is on its way out”

It’s not even inauguration day. Obamamania is still in full effect. Hell, I’m starting an Obama blog next…

“I think you need something more original and true to the Oh Word life”

Whereas I think I need to sell t-shirts.

    rafi    Nov 19, 05:48 PM
  12. I wasn’t aware ‘chea’ was even your thing, I thought it was MC Eiht’s. But I prefer the Obama design-wise…

    Tray    Nov 19, 09:19 PM
  13. How can I not buy either one?

    Curious.

    c0ncerned hater 6000    Nov 19, 10:10 PM
  14. I just picked up a pair of royal blue and canary adidas kicks. I need the Ikea shirt.

  15. Raf –

I voted for the Obama shirt but I’m surprised you can’t come up with something more inspiring than these two choices. This is like the 04 election and in this case the Obama shirt is a better cowboy than Kerry was a professor.

Is piggybacking on some iconic design really going to help you sell you more Oh Word tees?

You can say I’m hatin homie, but you’re anti-hatin which is worse ;)

  16. “Is piggybacking on some iconic design really going to help you sell you more Oh Word tees?”

Apparently you missed how this played out the last time we sold t-shirts?

    rafi    Nov 20, 12:21 PM
  17. Must have.

    J-Mass    Nov 20, 12:22 PM
  18. And I happen to really like both of these designs by the way.

We’ll get more stuff popping off in the future but yeah if you want to talk about what will sell, it’s only by remixing/adapting/responding to a larger movement that good numbers are possible.

To give you the cliff notes on last time ohword sold t-shirts.. No one was selling “Dilla Changed My Life” shirts when he first passed. To raise money for the Dilla fund we created one. It was a little different from the homemade one in the famous photo – we changed the colors and added an image of a crate of graphics. It sold like crazy. Predominantly from new visitors to the site who had come looking for the shirt. I couldnt even keep up with the orders. Then we introduced a bunch of shirts based on cool Oh Word art. They sold jack doodoo.

This went on for months. I still get email from people asking if they can buy our Dilla shirt.

    rafi    Nov 20, 12:30 PM
  19. Love that Dilla shirt.

    J-Mass    Nov 20, 12:32 PM
  20. My Cambourghini shirt is ruined by pit stains.

PS-voted for Ikea in a losing cause.

    sankofa    Nov 22, 05:05 PM
  21. Hey Ikea’s making a nice run.. it was 2:1 for most of this now more like 3:2

    rafi    Nov 23, 02:19 PM
  22. Yeah, I wish I would’ve gotten a Cambourghini shirt when I had the chance. You guys still have any of thos around?

The Ill Pirsona    Dec 1, 06:33 PM
