I got mine, I'm Swayze · by Rafi Kam

By now it’s been widely reported that Patrick Swayze is “finally experimenting with rap music”. AllHipHop’s use of the word finally suggesting this is the day we have all been waiting for.

Some of us have a longer memory than AllHipHop who suggest Swayze’s previous involvement with hip-hop was “indirect” in being only the source for the slang term Swayze.

Like most of the world, they are criminally sleeping on Patrick Swayze’s beginnings in the rap game as one of the original members of EPMD. We’ve uncovered an old promotional glossy from their 1988 tour together (below). This was just before Swayze suddenly disappeared to further his Hollywood career, leaving the group (now a duo) to adopt their new name and a new slang phrase.

“I couldn’t believe he would just vanish like that one day,” Parrish Smith told us in a recent interview, “Everybody thinks we started saying Swayze after Ghost but that was just the phrase around the crib because of the way Pattie disappeared on us.”

  1. P-Sway can finally bring the pain to all those wack sucka MCs (Eminem, Tupac, Biggie) and show them the talent that we can only guess as in hits like Dirty Dancing, Ghost, etc.
