Violating Part 1: Willie Hutch Samples · by Rafi Kam

March 7 Update: If you’ve just arrived looking for these Willie Hutch songs please check back next week. Our web host has decided to move all of our MP3 files. We’re looking for new hosting at the moment. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Willie Hutch
Singer/songwriter/producer Willie Hutch passed away in September but his legacy lives on

Apologies to DJ Premier, we’re violating. This is a real treat though.

These are selections of classic Willie Hutch soul tracks paired with hip-hop songs that have sampled them. The selections and the audio come courtesy of MP3 archivist HipHoppin so all thanks go to him.

We start with the basis for what many called the best rap song of 2005. Enjoy.

Willie Hutch – Tell Me Why Has Our Love Turned Cold
Three 6 Mafia ft. Trick Daddy, Slim Thug, and Project Pat – Stay Fly (Remix)

Willie Hutch – Brothas Gonna Work It Out
Dr. Dre – Rat-Tat-Tat-Tat

Willie Hutch – I Choose You
Cormega – Rap’s A Hustle

Willie Hutch – Baby, Come Home
Tight Man – They Wanna Know

Willie Hutch – Mack’s Stroll

  2. Most appreciated.

I’d probably have to put down the Hospital love theme flip from Biggie’s debut as my favorite Hutch-sample-moment.

  3. good lookin’ Brooklyn!

I am sorry that I chewed up your bandwidth but I had to listen to all those songs.

  4. Nah, no bandwidth bellyaching anymore.

Coral is taking the brunt for most of the site’s downloads anyway.

  5. These tracks just remineded me how 3-6 and Paul are doin this whole “soul sample” thing better than Kanye himself…(Check that Gangasta Boo, Bun B, et al. “ridin and sippin” joint…i mean “junt”) kinda wish you woulda thrown Project Pat up there for the “I Choose You” sample, I know its obvious but THAT track was a match made in heaven.

  6. I think that Willie Hutch was a genius. Thats why everybody including me has sampled him. I used about 4 or 5 samples from willie already. And let me tell you, those are the beats my friends end up liking the most. RIP Willie

  7. 50 cent also used “I choose you” for his song “Pimpin Part 2”. But man, Willie Hutch made some great music R.I.P.

  8. You know alot of people really don’t understand the impact Willie Hutch’s music has had on hip hop today. So many of his songs are being sample by artists today but more so than others Three Six Mafia. Reason being Hutch’s music was sort of like the gangsta music of the 70’s. I mean think about how many times you’ve heard “the mack” sampled in a hip hop song. Sad to say though alot of youngstas out there now really have no idea who Willie Hutch is but they know the music when they here it.

  9. I do appreciate the downloads… But what is Willie saying in the chorus of the “love turned cold” sample. I know there’s a lot of discrepancy currently out here with 3-6 Maf’s lyrics, claiming that the part that is actually sampled from Willie, says something about lucifer being king. Willie’s track (and three 6’s for that matter) doesn’t sound anything like this to me, except for the middle part saying “you are king”. But towards the end of the track, it changes the first line to say, “you’re my queen”. So what exactly was this song about?

  10. Let’s not forget the 9th track

“Good Ol’ Love” for Masta Ace.

(Hospital prelude of love theme/Give me some of that good old love)

from the FOXY BROWN soundtrack he did.

  11. kanye west sampled the theme from the mack for poppin my collar for 3 six

Mally Mall    Apr 14, 07:13 PM
  12. The theme for the mack wasn’t sampled for poppin my collar, it was used for “Testin My Gangsta”, and I doubt Kanye had anything to do with it.

    All-In    May 15, 02:47 PM
  13. “The Theme from The Mack” was used in both “Poppin’ My Collar” and “Testin’ My Gangsta”.

    Thelma    Jan 30, 01:56 AM
  16. “Hospital Prelude to Love theme” is used in “Let me Luv U” by Jori Hulkkonen and “If things were perfect” by Moby

    Ranx    Feb 1, 08:58 PM
