You may not realize it, but the good folks at OhWord shed blood, sweat, and tears for our devoted readers. We just recently posted my album analysis of Mobb Deep’s The Infamous which is actually over a year in the making.
It’s not that the article or the accompanying illustration required that much time to complete. It just sort of happened that way. I started working on this album analysis over a year ago when we were simply compiling content for the future site, which was just a collective notion, a hiphop nerd’s dream at the time. As I wrote, I realized that the piece was not simply an analysis of one album, but a mini-chronicle of what could be termed a musical movement, which seemed to begin with Large Pro and continue on to Mobb Deep.
For whatever reason, the completion of this particular project eluded me, even after I wrote numerous reviews and many other features for the site. I couldn’t quite figure out how to tie everything together, and I devoted increasingly less time to actually working on the article, sometimes avoiding it for months at a time. I finally decided to finish the damned thing in December and toiled for an entire week to finish it just in time for a site update. Agent B. promised me an accompanying piece of art that would evoke the notion of the “Queens Nation.” All was set.
Unfortunately, Agent B. is also a perfectionist procrastinator when it comes to OhWord. Throw in a little bad luck and an increased pressure to produce, as well as a site-wide lethargy (counterbalanced by an increasing focus on our blog) and the article doesn’t drop until January 25th. It’s all gravy though – Agent B’s illustration is super-dope and outta sight as usual and I am more pleased with my own writing than I have ever been. Perseverence paid off – eventually. Hope ya’ll enjoy reading as much as we enjoyed creating it – this is all for YOU, remember.
Stay tuned.
