roosevelt franklin release free album on web · by Rafi Kam

Mr. Len and Kimani of Roosevelt Franklin are up to something

Why are Len and Kimani smirking in the picture above? Maybe because they’ve just done something you’re supposedly not supposed to do.

Sick of getting dissed by record labels who say they don’t know how to market them, the duo (formerly of Company Flow and Masterminds respectively) have decided to release their 2nd album as Roosevelt Franklin on their own… on the internet… for free.

Stop what you’re doing right now and cop it from this post on their blog.

I’m only about halfway through listening right now but it’s definitely dope. Clever writing and concepts, good beats, and an indie spirit through and through. The album is steeped in rock references. “I saw it on oprah” cops a classic violent femmes tune, “screw you patrick swayze” seamlessly works an old pearl jam lyric into kimani’s emotional rhyme, “alone together” is an anthem for black musicians and fans who love rock n roll in spite of social barriers.

It’s a great listen and did I mention this shit is free? You won’t find it in stores so go download it already.
