From Deadspin: Mike Cooper masturbates at the library (again). More news at 11. The dad in this clip elevates the video from good to great. This is truly must see TV

Greg Tate’s review of the new Mobb Deep at the Voice:

Of course maybe we’ve got this flipped—perhaps Havoc and Prodigy are exploiters too, turning in mediocrity, taking Fifty’s moula, and running down to the vaults for a green-cheddar orgy as so lavishly depicted in the album art. Perhaps this explains Prodigy’s near-disappearance-when-not-phoned-in pro forma presence on the lyrical, vocal, and production fronts. Could be that’s just his depression talking too: the blues that inevitably and immediately follow when you chuck your evil-genius creative muses to the curb in pursuit of big posse boy-love and even filthier corporate lucre.

I didn’t blog about the last halftime update but there were some cool highlights like this incredible illustration on the history of the “Think!” sample and a very entertaining long interview with O.C. The highlight being O.C.‘s weird off-topic venture to discussing “fruitcakes” in the industry. O.C. goes from talking about how in his music career he never “bent over” for a paycheck to an odd tangent on the many around him who apparently took that expression literally. The Halftime guys try and get him to change topics in a hurry after his use of “fruitcakes”.

I’m loving the format of Biochemical Slang where the photos plot out the post you’re about to read. This post on the Fat Boys and the obesity/poverty connection made me take proper notice.

Chartreuse seems to drop a couple of gems a week. You Can’t Make Money With Adsense Unless Your Site Sucks is a thought-provoking read for anyone running a blog or website; the comments flesh out the discussion. This link Char posted today about Howard Stern’s approach to the internet is most definitely related.

XXL went after SOHH. SOHH’s questionable anonymous source went after Beanie. I’m not even going to link to either of those non-events… really couldn’t both of these sites be better? SOHH in particular has been just sohh slow (ha! get it?) lately. I’m on a broadband connection at work and it takes a full minute for any page to open.

Music like dirt, for your money’s worth. Ska / Reggae legend Desmond Dekker has passed away of a heart attack at age 64. Dekker was the first reggae singer to find fame overseas and has a catalog of excellent songs like Israelites, 007 (Shantytown), It Mek, Pickney Girl, Intensified, King of Ska and so on. I saw him perform at Tramps in NYC years back and was amazed at all the energy and swagger that surrounded this wrinkled old man in the leather pants. If my computer and my cd collection weren’t in storage, I’d upload some tracks. Take my word for it and seek out his music. Rest In Peace.
