Deep Tissue Linkage · by Rafi Kam

Retro to death yo

XXL uncovered an old gem today with The Dogs – Your Mama’s On Crack Rock. You can also check the response video TKO Posse’s – Daddy’s on the Pipe. This really got me in the mood for all my old favorite videos from back in the day watching “The Box”. But I couldn’t find Uncanny Alliance’s “I Got My Education” or Max & Sam’s “Young Man Rumble” on Youtube. If you have these videos be my new best friend and share.

Some things you should have been reading about instead of 50 Cent’s business deal with Apple

African slaves aboard the HMS Daphne ca. 1868 from Cherryl

A monument for Denmark Vesey? from P6

“Scholars regard Vesey as a precursor both to the Civil War and the civil rights movement, but he is among the most divisive figures most Southerners have never heard of. Here, many blacks exalt him as a freedom fighter, while some whites condemn him as a terrorist.”

Isn’t that so often the way? One group’s freedom fighter is another’s terrorist. From now on I’ll call any similarly divisive figure a “frerrorist”.

Model Minority brings up (and also at times brings down) an essay that questions the real reason that rappers are going after Oprah.

He’s not bad… he’s just different

Noz at XXL points out an overlooked point in the noise about the cancellation of BET Uncut, “it was also the only (presumably?) open submission national forum for independent rap videos. Sure it would occasionally air big budget, risque 50 Cent and Nelly videos (and near the end of the run, a gang of awful reggaeton), but the meat and potatoes of the uncut empire was the artistry of the unknown and unsigned.”

A clever post from Vik about those who can transform and those who can’t. Part of me wants to take issue with the post because I think there are actually many complications stemming from identity and assimilation for “white ethnics”. Even if your problems are internally imposed, they can still be major problems. But part of me is still stuck on the clever Transformers flip. Ahh television. Thank you for making me so dumb!

Art of Rhyme, not art of usability

I really do want to read this Art of Rhyme interview of the Juggaknots referenced in an Imageyenation post. I tried. I started to. But I can’t do it. The user interface is too shitty.

Please read this book and try again.

Gully insect of the week

Most bats eat insects so this 13” centipede (no Interzone) that preys on bats is sort of a frerrorist in its own right: a liberator for insectkind and the ultimate nightmare for the bat overseers.

Same Birthday Friends

Miss Ahmad has got jokes. She says of her plans to hang with “Same Birthday Friend” Beyonce, “Now granted we’re a few years apart so we won’t be able to talk about the Run DMC Raising Hell Tour, or the first time pegged jeans were in style, or a whole lotta shit but that’s okay. We can talk about when she almost fell during the Oscars, and how nice it feels for her Momma to finally not be making her clothes!”

Post had me laughing but also had me particularly excited because I already know who I share a birthdate with!

Hey by the way what is the appeal of using Vox? Just another social network to try out or does it have any real advantages?

I guess the “Question of the Day” thing is vaguely amusing.
