I would have just expressed this as a comment at Status Aint Hood but that required registering and if I’m going to go through that effort I may as well blog about it.
Today there was a post about country music at Status Ain’t Hood. I can’t really tell you what it said because, as with most reading material, I pretty much just skimmed over it looking for my name. No luck, that blog never pays off for that.
What did catch my eye was this line:
In this interview, the GZA copped to liking country music, and he seems to like the same things about it that I do: “Great stories, man.”
Oh cool the Voice linked to Halftime’s GZA interview.... but no, instead it was actually a link to the blog of fringe internet-rap cult figure Gentle Jones.
“What the hell,” I thought “did GZA say that in an interview with Gentle Jones too?”
Nope. Sure enough it was just a cut and paste of JButters’ Halftime interview with the GZA. With no link to the actual source of it. Paging through the other blog entries it seems the whole blog is basically made up of cut and pastes of articles Mr. Jones has taken interest in. GJ, I’m sure you mean no harm. You should at least start linking these back to the original source though. It’s just common courtesy.
As for Breihan, shouldn’t the repeated use of “Halftime” and mention of “jbutters” have tipped him off that Gentle Jones may not be the author of this interview?
In any case, every fan of hip-hop should be aware of the impressive collection of interviews assembled at Halftime’s Hip Hop Icon Series all actually conducted by JButters of Halftime Online. No foolin!
