You know I have to comb a lot of hip-hop news in order to find some gems for the Oh Word readers. Most of it really sucks.
But every once in a while you find something written so poorly that it rounds the scale, goes beyond being bad and all the way back to good.
I think that may be the case with this 4 sentence / 4 paragraph article from The Political Gateway titled “Influential rapper Rakim set for U.S. Tour”.
I like the way it tells me three times between the title and the first two sentences that Rakim is influential. This is obviously key. And lets get specific… why is he influential? Because of his innovative style of hip-hop! Don’t tell anyone but that’s basically like we got a fourth use of “influential” thrown in for free.
Also he’s touring. I know this because the word “tour” appears in every sentence.
What I really love the most about this article is the last paragraph where in a twist ending we find out Rakim’s birthname and are reminded that this news all comes from the loose lips of a certain “Web site” mentioned back in paragraph two.
agent b found this article so inspiring that he has given it new life by turning it into a book for “Young Readers”.
Without further ado, we present 2007’s sureshot Newbery Medal Award winner…
Influential rapper Rakim set for U.S. tour

Holy shit. LMAO. This is the funniest thing I’ve seen since the “Interpretations of Popular Rap Lyrics”.

hahaha…
in all realness though, i doubt i’ll even be catching the show in san diego, when the influential rapper hits up san diego.
i saw him a couple years ago at freestyle session, where he was pretty much just lip synching to his influential songs.

That book is so influential! It will influence future minds everywhere. In fact we can’t even begin to predict how influential those future minds will be or what an influence they will have in the future. Surely the influence on their influence will influence minds for centuries.
