Already Over (again): Books about bling · by Rafi Kam

Another problem with big hip-hop websites is when they seem more like your homeroom’s P.A. system than a place where journalism is practiced.

This press release story on AllHipHop about the upcoming Bling: The Hip-Hop Jewelry Book is a perfect example.

Our long-time readers already know that refusing to read books about bling was all the rage in 2005 and it looks like it’s making a comeback for 2006!

So we say in a nod to Gawker’s already over “Already Over” series, “bling” is definitely still Already Over and books about bling are Already Over like a virgin – touched for the very first time.

Cheers to AllHipHop for not pointing out that this territory was already explored and left for dead at the bookstore last year.

Also Already Over: Hip-Hop Journalism.

Please give me my Press Releases in that raw uncut.

Related thoughts:

“Content” is now synonymous with “filler” It fills the space between your ads.

Marketers (and not “the market”) are responsible for what they sell and how they sell it.

You’re listening, right?
