The Game ft Juice – Gorillaz (Know The Ledge)
Hot off our controversial first instalment hailing the return of saliva depleting rap tunes (now updated in CDQ), we were alerted to The Game’s new freestyle over the Rakim classic Know The Ledge. While Juelz tried and failed to represent over the classic beat last year, I’m glad to announce that Jaceon Taylor continues to defy the odds (and all logic) by releasing dope material and doing the beat justice. Wisely, Game decided NOT to copy Rakim’s flow and go bar-for-bar with the god, an impossible task. Instead, he calls on his aptly named protégé Juice (not the Chicago guy) to provide assistance and drop tag-team rhymes on an unsuspecting audience. Fast Rap AND line-for-line exchanges? The World is NOT ready for this level of trendy revivalism. Recalling modern back-and-forths between Jay-Z and Sauce Money moreso than the Run DMC era, their interactions serve the smooth beat well and Juice’s slightly higher pitched voice serves as a fitting compliment to Game’s gruff gangsta. Lyrically, the customary namedropping is still in effect with everyone from 50 Cent to AZ to Paris Hilton getting a mention or diss. They even take a moment to discuss fast-rapper Jaz-O’s influence on the Jigga man, all at over 100 BPM. For a guy whose rap collection and influences seemed superficial at best, Game seems to know his shit. All in all, as our resident Fast-Rap expert R.H.S noted, the results recall The Dissmasters at their most ridiculous, in part due to the plethora of rap celebs getting roasted like a Gza helmed cookout.
Suckas thinking our trendwatch is a joke better get with the program: Fast-Rap is the movement baby paul and with two excellent releases in a week, we’re definitely on track for world domination by 1988 2008.

Man this song is sick, game is definatly getting better by the song. Bringing back Know The Ledge, no one does shit like that, and makes it work. Gangstaaaaaaa
