What better way to celebrate Italian American heritage than by remembering the man who “discovered” the New World, reaping huge blood-stained rewards for his home country Spain.

Should we really question any excuse to eat hot sausage and pepper sandwiches followed by some zeppoli? Maybe just a little…

  1. My friends and I used to desecrate this columbus monument way back when. I hate when all the italians get so hyped up about today, it’s one of the only times I get mad that my ancestry is of the boot.

  3. I can see the Italian thing. But lets not forget how facts are more than compromised in generally anything associated with “American” culture, or atleast what exists with whats in the mainstream. Because in a few weeks most of us will become part-time gluttons in celebration of a Disney-fied story of how Tanto and the Pilgrims lived happily ever after. Just to mention one piece of historical amnesia.

  4. It’s not a thing I’m proud of but probably Columbus was catalan. In fact, the only two internacional accepted theories about his origin are that he was from Geneve or perhaps from Catalonia (Google it,or maybe Wikpipedia would help you; it’s not the same than Spain). So I guess they nedeed their Malcom X, their Lincoln, and Columbus was on the way.

    Incidentally I refuse to acknowledge the actual name of the “holiday” so you’ll notice that when I took the day off on Monday I only said “no update – federal holiday.” Really it wasn’t even a day of… it was just an excuse to not work on lyrics or corrections so I could prepare a massive RapReviews.com update. :)

  15. Maybe it is about Italian pride. I don’t think that pride is a bad thing. I think that feeling superior is a bad thing. Culture is culture and Italians are a little more flamboyant about their heritage doesn’t make them bad.

    I will say this. If you hate you’re no better than the nearly fictitious Columbus. If you want to be against Columbus, be against everything that is America! Columbus may have enabled slave trade, but so were all of the powerful states of his time.

    Today, Bush and his cronies represent us to a world, which no longer accepts his archaic and moronic view points and yet because of…well I don’t even know why…people think he’s a decent guy. An American. A complete puppet of the pain and suffering that America currently depicts. I am not proud to be American anymore and if you are, you sure should celebrate Columbus day. A vote for Bush is a vote for hate, death, discrimination, suffering, etc…...........
