XXL doesn't care about blog people · by Rafi Kam

That’s why they removed Byron Crawford’s post titled “Who really runs XXL?”

It’s not the Bol post that some have recently demanded XXL take down.

Luckily, Google’s cache supports free speech.

  2. obviously, YN has something to hide by deleting the post…i think its obvious, by now, that XXL eats out of the hand of Interscope.

  3. I think that was clear the day they gave Tony Yayo’s album an “XL” rating.

  4. Interscope has tendrils extending everywhere, even into advertising on my website. So far it hasn’t become a conflict of interest but I’m waiting for the day they say they’re pulling ads because a review was too negative.

    “Who really runs XXL?

Or, Chaz “Slim” Williams is a jealous bitch.
Posted In: Columnists, Bol’s Saturday Night Workout by Byron Crawford

First of all, it’s worth noting that this is obviously a sensitive issue. If XXL was to lose the exorbitant sum it receives each month from Interscope Records for – ostensibly – advertising, I’m almost certain they’d no longer be able to come up with the $5 per day they pay me to come up with this bullshit.

In that sense, I should probably also note that Lloyd Banks has a new album out today. I heard it’s real good, and I’m sure it’s on sale at Best Buy. Grab one for yourself and then grab another one as a Christmas present for your mom, provided you aren’t some sort of Muslim.

Anyhoo, there’s a minor shitstorm a brewin’ over at the superior print version of XXL, having to do with Fiddy Cent and his former manager Chaz “Slim” Williams, whom I’ve never heard of until just now. Apparently though, he’s noteworthy enough to have a feature on himself and his company Black Hand Entertainment in the current issue.

[Er, I’m assuming it’s the current issue. I’d pick up a copy myself, but if I did, that’d mean I would’ve spent more money in the past few months copping this mess from Barnes & Noble than it would cost to just get a subscription, which would make me officially a sucker.]

According to Radar magazine, Fiddy Cent (i.e. my benefactor) was none too pleased with XXL doing the story, which was conceived as a follow-up to Fiddy’s cover story in the special weed carriers issue from a few months ago. Allegedly, he even went so far as to call Elliott Wilson himself (on his direct line, which is connected to a red telephone) and order that the piece be killed or else.

    So sayeth the Radar,

When 50 got wind of the follow-up story he called XXL editor in chief Elliot Wilson and demanded the story be spiked, according to Williams, saying Interscope would pull its ads otherwise.

    Ruh roh.

Why would Fiddy Cent be so concerned with XXL publishing such a story? Chaz “Slim” Williams would like to think that it’s because Fiddy doesn’t want the public to know the truth about his fabled crack-dealing past. “I’m one of the individuals that really knows the truth about him,” Williams tells Radar. “So I would imagine he wouldn’t want his credibility tested.”

It’s worth noting though that Radar’s only source for the story is Williams himself, who’s obviously got some sort of jihad (sorry) against Fiddy. Most likely he’s just jealous that Fiddy is worth $6 gozillion (which is understandable) and is attempting to jump start his own career by getting involved in some sort of beef with the rapper.

And for what it’s worth, the current issue has been on news stands for a while now and I’ve yet to hear any announcement from our corporate overlords at Interscope about pulling advertising. If anything, I think this proves once and for all that no one other than Elliott Wilson (and his wife, natch) runs XXL magazine.”
