Prodigy - Mac 10 Handle Video · by Sach O
This is one of those random surprises that helps me keep the faith in this rap shit. Like Cobra was last year, this track pretty much brings back the old Mobb in new modern clothes which is ok with me, the alternative being their last album. Stabbing mirrors, George Bush masks, John Woo’s Hard Boiled, DMX’s beat and Scarface’s chorus all come together for a nice 4 minutes of Em-oh-Bee-Bee.
Also, someone better buy P’s tape. He looks like he could use a good meal. I thought dude didn’t take drugs on account of his sickle cell…I guess his sales mad him fall off the wagon or something.

jesus christ, i don’t know which is more pathetic: this f. gary gray lookin’ hip-hop 101 video (i almost laughed when blood came out of the couch—symbolism?), or prodigy trying to come ‘hard’ (after fucking-up his sellout attempt via g-unit).
i wonder who (ghost) wrote this …

if i still thought spike lee had any balls i would argue the obvious ‘clockers’ influence …
and if melvin van peebles wasn’t working with cartoon characters over at stones throw, he’d slap someone in the face for the outrageous claims made in the above post. what’s next? comparing the talent of roger avery to that of wong kar-wai?
as far as mentioning lake & cormega in any context, hip-hop or otherwise, gimme a break—how many hip-hop cd’s do have? like, three?

Well considering Wong Kar-Wai generally improvises on set and puts the story together in editing and thus doesn’t write any scripts for his films while Roger Avery is a scriptwriter; I find that comparison to be tenuous at best.
Unless you’re talking about Wong’s 80’s scriptwriting for others which is even more confounding.
On the other hand, seeing as WKW is my favorite filmmaker you get props just for mentioning him.

i tried to illustrate my point by comparing two filmmakers that are complete opposites. it was meant to be an absurd statement, which i thought was my point.
p.s. being a WKW myself, i would love to hear your thoughts on ‘2046’, which i thought collasped under the weight of its director’s methods. let’s face it: it you can’t remember what the point of your film was when you hit the editing room, you don’t have a chance of communicating with an audience.

Yeah, I didn’t want to be a dick with that comment, I’m just a stickler for detail.
I don’t think the problem with 2046 was its method of construction so much as the fact that Wong couldn’t bear to adequately trim the sci-fi scenes that he originally shot but no longer really needed. If you’re going to “discover” your film as you make it you have to be able to make those tough choices for the good of the movie. 2046 would have flowed much better with another 15-20 minutes of the Train cut out if you ask me.
I’m still a fan of the film but admitedly I’m never bothered by Wong’s indulgences. Hell I liked Ashes of Time and I’m still not fully sure it made sense after 4 viewings.

Chungking Express or Fallen Angels are good introductions imo. They’re his “coolest” and most stylish films and are considered his most purely entertaining.
Just a reminder to everyone though: his stuff is nothing like this Prodigy video or The Killer. Great films though.

Know I’m late to the party and I take no satisfaction in telling you this, but before that was DMX’s joint that was ICE-T’s High Rollers (remix.)
As far as dudes clowning Pee, that’s cool. I’ll take grimey birdchested shirtless bloody bananaclip Pee over Outta control fucking 2 bitches in the telly drinking Moe on orders from Curtis Jackson V.I. Pee, 8 days a week. He looks fuckin’ psycho in this shit and I don’t give a fuck who directed it, son ate a whole pizza and then went out and merc’d that kid while took a piss on some Agent 47 shit. I love it. For all the character Mobb Deep sold to get their porsche on and get more name recognition, at least Prodigy went out and created a new character of his own in this video.
