If you’d told me 3 years ago that MF Doom would one day be hosting a Christmas special on Basic Cable, I’d have laughed. I would have also been completely wrong.
Despite A Dipsett Christmas disappointing by all accounts, Doom’s take on the Holidays has the potential to be one of the most entertaining Hip Hop related moments on television since Rap City went to crap. Hell, I haven’t heard Doom sound that jolly and lighthearted since KMD dropped Mr. Hood. That Dangerdoom and Ghost production dough must be keeping dude fed.
From Operation Doomsday to this.
Wow.
Will Doom be the next Gnarls Barkley?
I can almost see Doom going Gold.

fed indeed, doom’s got maad holiday weight on him
— JunSri Dec 21, 12:34 AM
yeah he does look kind jolly.

“doom’s got maad holiday weight on him”
to the contrary, he looks like he’s lost a little, at least since this appearance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaQkfYJoC3M

I thought the same jon.

“from operation doomsday to this. wow.”
aside from turning doom into (see above image) and taking pictures of pb wolf in funny hats, what exactly does stones throw do?
nas really hit the nail on the head.
— d-luv Dec 21, 05:08 PM
didn’t Stones Throw put out Donuts? I’d say they are doing enough…
— khal Dec 21, 09:13 PM
^
yeah, that’s true.
it’s just, seeing m.f doom as a clown got me cranky. i know, i sound like an asshole, but what the hell is going on? this cartoon-n-rap bullshit is killing me.
— d-luv Dec 21, 11:31 PM
I mean, you could look at it one way and be annoyed that he’s doing this whole cartoon thing, but I’m just happy to catch Doom on tv. It’s hard enough to find music on mtv, let alone Doom.

carson is a dumbass—”Rock Co Flow”
yeah you’re right…dude’s always been chubby
— JunSri Dec 22, 05:14 AM
he hasn’t always been that robust but we’re way past the early 90s now…
who could be mad about this? dumile has always been a bit of a clown/eccentric/geek. cartoon network is a fine fit.
— Rafi Dec 22, 11:51 AM
I appreciated Doom’s darkest work as much as anyone, but considering the difficult times he went through when he was on that steez, he deserves to get fat and cartoonish as much as anyone. Let him eat.
Besides, Madvillain II still sounds grimy as hell judging on the leaks and that’s what really counts.
— Sach Dec 22, 12:04 PM
Sach: madvillain 2 WILL be grimy as hell …
BUT
exchanging verses with the aqua teen hunger force is just wack—why does doom get a pass when it comes time for him to be held accountable for his “art?”
— d-luv Dec 22, 05:07 PM
Answer: Mostly because he’s one of the few rappers from the late 80’s still putting out usually dope stuff and I’m a fan.
Although truth be told he doesn’t get a pass: I didn’t think the Dangerdoom record was all that good. There were a few fun songs but as a whole he seemed uninspired and didn’t mesh well with Dangermouse’s beats. It wasn’t a bad idea but the execution was lacking.
His art gets the same shake as everyone else’s does. As for his TV appearances I’m not quite as stringent in my demands. What can I say? I’m intrigued at the idea of seeing a former homeless rapper in a metal mask host a Christmas special.
— Sach Dec 22, 05:18 PM
And before any of y’all think you can son me on some trivia shit, the “late 80’s” qualification refers to his first appearance with Serch, not his actual records.
— Sach Dec 22, 05:23 PM
Doom is funny so he can get away with doing all the silly shit he wants.
