Honestly I would if I weren’t already married. The only thing I wish it had added were a way for people to comment on linked items and a better way to archive them. Still it’s great that I’m automatically adding new material to the site just by checking up on my RSS subscriptions.
But my opinion isn’t what matters here. What do you guys think of that new links widget in the blog sidebar?
I’ve just added a way for you to be able to subscribe specifically to our Links feed.
Click here and choose your subscription method of choice.
That new feed is for anyone who wouldn’t usually see the widget because they already get our content via email or RSS feed reader. Or for anyone worried about missing links because they weren’t checking the site daily.
Remember you can also subscribe to Oh Word’s own content with the original feed.
can i ask you what the fuck youre talking about?

Look over there—->
It’s a new site feature.
That’s what I’m talking about.

you know, it really is awesome.

I think it’s a good feature; but you have so many entries in it that you have to scroll down to see the rest of the stuff, like recent posts, archives, and links to other blogs. This may be what you intended, but when I added this to my site, I threw the clip way down at the bottom of the sidebar and limited the number of stories so it wouldn’t be so overwhelming. Plus, limiting the number wasn’t such a big deal because I don’t share a whole lot of new items on a regular basis.

true. i was thinking about maybe moving it to that nice empty sidebar
<--- over there

Hey, it’s something to experiment with, if nothing else. I just wouldn’t want to be distracting readers with a widget that is a bit overwhelming, obscures some of the site’s content, and doesn’t actually include/lead to any of your own site’s content.

I’ve started a revolution.
If I had more kung-fu, I’d love to hack at google’s layout and formatting for this for this, because it’s not terribly awesome.
— Dids Jan 3, 08:07 PM
It’s great, but the color scheme is a little distracting.
— Nikhil P. Yerawadekar Jan 3, 08:56 PM
i don’t really care for it either way
— hoodie Jan 3, 11:06 PM
I would say moving it to the left side might make your content surrounded by too much noise.
I agree with Nikhil that the color scheme is a little distracting, but my bigger problem is that the font size is bigger than your sites own content.
I would vote for decreasing the font size of the widget.

One of my posts is currently second on that list, so yeah, two thumbs up for this new widget.
I agree it would be better on the left side, that way the links to your own Recent Posts stay up at the top of the page.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve implemented some of them…
In case anyone running this widget on their blog (noah, dids) is curious about how to customize the style… i used dom inspector from firefox to find out all the class names.
“i” is the class-name for the item titles
and “s” for the name of the source
you can also customize the div or list itself of course.
all i did was shrink the text down but anything you could do in css should be a possible customization.

It’s so much better with the smaller font, and I was wrong, it does look better on the left side.
Good job Rafi. All those times Anil yelled at you for not doing your work paid off right here at this moment.
