This morning I’m checking my email at the free internet spot across the street from our hotel. Nelson George is talking on his cell phone just behind me. The MC turned new media mogul known as Hammer is about ten feet away trying to stay incognito.
We already did a long and mostly serious interview with Hammer yesterday morning in the exact same location. Nelson George we’ve been hoping to spot and it goes beyond wanting to sit down with the legendary hip-hop writer. George’s directorial debut is showing here at Sundance and stars Queen Latifah. I need to tell the Queen that she has a whole bunch of messages waiting for her at the end of our Flavor Unit review.
He’s walking outside now though, still on the cell. I sign out of gmail, close many windows and scurry outside. When George is done with his phone call I make my move. “Nelson George! My name is Rafi….”
He’s on his way to an interview up the hill but tells me to leave a message for him at his hotel. Keep your fingers crossed Linda Greenwood.
