Will the real Byron Crawford please stand up?

Yesterday, XXL linked to this interview with Bol at the Parker Report.

The interview is awkward with every question following the template:

“Didn’t you think _____ was going to get upset when you said _____?”

It’s also shot with a shaky camera and for no discernible reason pretends to be a news “live by satellite” interview with a false split-screen. None of which serves the shyly-smiling, soft-spoken, larger-than-advertised and almost effeminate Byron very well.

Everyone who has seen my videos knows that I have no business criticizing a fat man with a goofy grin. But I don’t publish my writing under a brooding photo of myself at 17.

What I really want to see is a parody of that Dove Evolution ad where the real Byron is made into the svelte scowling Byron.

Man, the only thing thats the same about these two heads is that they’re both cocked (nullus).

Unfortunately we don’t have morphing technology down pat so you’ll have to settle for this instead.

  1. If you put the average person (or at least the average blogger) on camera for their first public interview, I’d imagine they’d come off shy too.

    That interviewer was horrible. “Do you realllly believe Kanye West is a closet homo?”

    I thought it was pretty light ribbing considering Bol writes far more scathing stuff about people on a daily basis. I don’t think “crew” is the right word but I enjoy Bol’s writing and if people consider this site and his in the same breath I wouldn’t be mad. Getting paid to rap-blog is the dream isn’t it?

    Incidentally, that video gave us NO split-second screen-shot shoutout. Fuckers.

  8. That was one of the worst interviews I’ve seen that was not done by Charlie Rose.

    Bol has some guts for revealing his face and voice. He had to have known that people were gonna clown the shit out of him.

    It may even be a little foolhardy. I don’t think that some of the rappers he pisses off and their rabid fans understand his humor. He has already made himself a target. Showing these idiots an up to date image of himself could put him in danger if he ever moves beyond the blogging thing.

  9. He did come off pretty bad in the interview, but I’m sure we won’t see Bol in video interviews every other week, anyway. Bol is still an entertaining writer, and his XXL column is still a daily read for me.

  13. I know people have been probably waiting to roast on Bol ever since his blog became to créme de la créme of the blogosphere.

    It’s funny that he has changed very little, but all in all—the hate had to be warranted since his scathing tirades have crushed legends (and some in the making) and have pissed out an entire genre. So, Bol… keep doing what you do… even if it looks like you got a lot of Little Debbies to work off. :) LOL J/K
