In Boston, this baby was mistaken for a bomb

Busy week…

What kind of country do we live in where Superbowl ads, the angle of the dangle on Prince’s guitar and the life of Anna Nicole Smith get more news coverage than the war in Iraq? I’m not just saying that’s true on the day of her death. That has been true throughout the length of the war on Iraq. They spoke about her non-stop for 30 minutes this morning. This isn’t JFK people. Keep it moving.

Ok, on to The Week In Blogging.

Check the Jay-Z parody spotted by Miss Ahmad

Crooklyn Classics on Main Source. Floodwatch on The LP

A rumored track list for Only Built for Cuban Linx Part II. Remember this is an internet rumor. Don’t just take it with a grain of salt, take it with a whole kilo.

A Mark Ronson remix of Lily Allen’s “Smile” with my old friends from Dujeous on it.

R of Melatone Music asks an important question, spells “heroes” wrong, no one replies. Where did all the heroes go?

The real truth about getting noticed is to set yourself apart.

A lot of people went goo-goo for Steve Jobs DRM post this week. Even the usually grouchy Bob Lefsetz sang Jobs’ praises. Going against the grain were Jason Chervokas and the fake Steve Jobs.

The fake Steve Jobs blog is dope. Check today’s post on Steve faith-healing a homeless guy. I needed a new spoof site in my life since Don’t Believe the Hypebeast had closed shop.

This short video about Web 2.0 is being viewed all over the place. Seth Godin on how effectively this guy was able to get his message out there because of how he presented it. It’s a nice video but I always also like to hear the contrarian view.

JB wants all blistery hacks to stop following the same formula.

This coming Monday Prince Paul hosts “Bring a White Girl” night at Apt in NYC.

Joan Morgan: If Barack ain’t black then neither am I John Turner: Black Like Me

The Source’s 5 mic review of Illmatic by Shortie (now known as Miss Info – the world’s hottest rap nerd).

Spellbinding video of Nina Simone at TSOYA.

A crazy mix from Jaz and a crazy collection of tracks from khal.

R.I.P. Big Pun and Dilla

Saturday New Yorkers can go to this Dilla tribute show hosted by Pharoahe Monch.

The sample sources for Donuts, by way of Biochemical Slang

Speaking of Dilla samples, an update on Bless 1 who won that contest we had last year for best rhyme over a Dilla beat.

Mystery solved: Hanging in and jiving

Where are they now Weed Carriers remix! And the remix bonus beat from Straight Banging.

Jeff Chang’s got a new book out.

Jason Tanz also has a book out. It’s about white people and hip-hop. Will white people in hip-hop be this year’s bling book? I can’t answer that – I’m too busy linking to Jamie Radford’s White Rapper show recaps. Byron reviewed the Tanz book at his site, and then posted about it at XXL. As did Tara. Recycling may save the world? Tanz (or his publisher) also sent me a copy recently but I haven’t had a chance to crack it open. Review coming in the not too distant future. Jeff Chang, holler at your boy! I paid good money for Cant Stop Wont Stop… the hardcover even!

The Roots are working on the follow up to last year’s best album

snicker Gawker’s T.A.N. used to write for HipHopInfinity You’ve come along way, maybe!

Speaking of HipHopInfinity, the Nonce!

Are these the 30 greatest Hip-Hop breaks of all time? Is the DJ Drama raid a potential turning point for Hip Hop? Crate Kings says yes on both counts.

Some dj hacks two Wii controllers to work with his PC DJ software birthing wiijing, the 48th element of hip-hop.

To the left, to the left. Corny, sure. But funny anyway.

Download Ego Trip’s The Big Playback

Another mix from Jaz. This time it’s a collection from Dante Ross’ production group the SD-50s.

The song remains the same: Clyde is stuck on some Bol stuff from two years ago.

Bol theorizes that stand-up comedian Lisa Lampanelli may have ripped material off from him. Later that day he posts a piece on the new Nas video with a headline possibly (as likely as Lampanelli stealing from Bol) jacked from an hours-old Idolator post.

A lot of criticism this week for Bol. First Dart Adams questions the incessant use of the word “jig” by Bol and Dallas Penn. This post could have perhaps sparked an interesting discussion but Dart hamstrings his argument by defending his own use of the n.i.double g.a. and then by not responding to Bol or Dallas when they show up to comment. Oh well.

And of course there was the Parker Report interview which got the internet – especially the Okay Player forums – going crazy. Someone who really ought to know better asked me if I thought the interview was going to be “career ending” for Bol. Are you people out of your mind? This is the most amusing and interesting piece of Bol news in months ever. His lack of good looks isn’t going to hurt him a bit. He’s not a leading man, he’s a writer who pisses people off – the self-hating-jig you love to hate. There are a lot of commenters saying Bol’s credibility is shot. Credibility? Since when has this Gin Blossoms obsessed sayer of outrageous things needed credibility? Go snooze through a Davey D essay if you need credibility.

Finally… since this post started off with a goofy video it will end with one as well.

Setting yourself apart? Not so much. Song remaining the same? Much more so.

Last week’s 50 interview on Hot 97 has already led to a Dipset “Curtis!” remix which has now led to a 50 video. 1 week from phone call to dis video! That’s the world moving on internet time people.

Fuck the important stuff. Give me more media….

  5. I just read on Oh Word! that I hamstrung my own argument against the usage of the word “jig” by defendinding my own usage of the N word and not responding to Dallas & Bol (I wasn’t coming from a moral standpoint with my blog, but a common sense one)...I simply think that it’s a black and white issue (pardon the pun) and using that word is irreprehensible therefore there wouldn’t be a back and forth dialogue about it…it’s just plain wrong in my opinion.

I DID respond to Bol right there in the comments. I’ve also told him that his “self loathing/hating Black man” routine is played out SEVERAL times (read the XXL comment boxes and look for Poisonous Dart’s responses for proof).

As for Dallas he said he’d “consider where and how often and where he usesthe word jig”...which is all I wanted anyways (I realistically didn’t expect him or Billy Sunday to be so moved by my blog that they’d see the error of their ways). No huge internet revolution with outraged readers condemning them for using it ever happened (unfortunately) and I got that whole issue off of my chest. In conclusion, I’m all good with the whole situation. One.

  7. Irreprehensible

    \Ir*rep`re*hen”si*ble\, a. [L. irreprehensibilis: cf. F. irr[‘e]pr[‘e]hensible. See Reprehensible.] Not reprehensible; blameless; innocent.—Ir*rep`re*hen\”si*ble*ness, n.—Ir*rep`re*hen\”si*bly, adv.

  8. Irreprehensible

    \Ir*rep`re*hen”si*ble\, a. [L. irreprehensibilis: cf. F. irr[‘e]pr[‘e]hensible. See Reprehensible.] Not reprehensible; blameless; innocent.—Ir*rep`re*hen\”si*ble*ness, n.—Ir*rep`re*hen\”si*bly, adv.

    Typo /ty*po/

An error that occurs when someone writes out a long ass response to something and doesn’t catch that they quickly cut and pasted a long ass sentence before “reprehensible” that contained the word “irrational”...the end result: “irreprehensible” and me coppin’ pleas on Oh Word. One.

  9. check your lexicon at the door people!

  10. Good looking out on that Nonce link, my copy has had a scratch for years so now I’ll finally have a clean playable version.

Who knew Bol was the one in the closet himself? Dude seems a little fruity.
