We're Not Done Yet - 20 Bonus Tracks · by R.H.S.

Link Updated Feb 19

Bonus Tracks Goodie Bag

Contents:

1.The Jaz – “It’s Your Nature” (1991, EMI Records): Jay-Z’s rap mentor flows exquisitely over Large Pro’s brooding beat.

2.Shazzy – “Ode II A Dead Man” (1990, Elektra): SD50s back smooth stylin’ female rapper on their first project.

3.Parental Advisory - “Let Loose The Lingo”
(1993, Savvy Records): Early organized Noize production, before their style evolved but still fresh.

4.MC Serch feat. Red Hot Lover Tone, Chubb Rock, Nasty Nas and O.C. – “Back To The Grille Again (Remix) (???, ????): Different beat and an additional verse courtesy of O.C.? Believe it.

5.Akbar- “Mothaship” (Ill Boogie , 2001)
Hardcore space rap that makes sense. Sort of.

6.Lakim Shabazz – “Style Wars” (1990, Tuff City): Flavor Unit’s voice of righteousness plus DJ Mark 45 King equals classic material.

7. Richy Pitch featuring Apani – “Day To Day” (2002, 7Heads): Original room-rap.

8. Jesse West – “The Master” (Motown, 1989):
Vinyl nerds like to discuss his later moniker changes. Shut up and listen.

9.King Tee featuring Nefretitti & Mad Kap – “We Got Da Fat Joint” (Capitol, 1993): Likwit crew founder gets busy with fellow L.A. rappers.

10. Micranots – “Slaves” (Rhymesayers, 2003): Originally recorded in 1996. Minimalist. Dope.

11.Threat – “The Whore Said It’s Yours” (Polygram, 1993): Kind of like how BDK impersonators on the East Coast still made good records on occasion…

12. Yesh – “Apt209” (Ill Boogie, 2002): DJ Mondee gives Yeshua DaPoed a mellow slow burner to ponder his starving artist existence.

13. Styles – “Nobody Believes Me” (Ruff Ryders, 2002): Anthropomorphic guns, knives, and cash? Gully.

14.Professor X. featuring Brother J., Wise Intelligent, Big Daddy Kane, Freedom Williams, The College Boyz, Two Kings & A Cypher, Shock G, Ex-Girlfriend, Chuck D. – “Close The Crackhouse” (Polydor, 1993): The title should be self-explanatory even to girlpants donning hipster nancies who trade Lil’ Wayne mixtapes.

15.Nobody featuring Aceyalone – “Faces Of The Deep” (Ubiquity, 2000): Downtempoacidjazzadelicfunkeenasty but dope.

16.Hoodratz – “Had A Bad Day” (Epic, 1993): Their Onyx style biting is so far beyond blatant on this track that I’m compelled to respect their earnestness.

17.Yaggfu Front “Future Shock” (Mends, 2002): Recorded circa 1999 and chock full of pre-millenial tension.

18. De La Soul “Ego Trippin’ (Part Three)” (Tommy Boy, 1993): Rarely heard sequel to their classic single from Buhloone Mind State.

19. Poor Righteous Teachers “Steady Slangin’ (Project Mix)” (Cha Ching, 2006): Unearthed gem. Trenton, NJ comes together once again as Wise Intelligent rips another Tony D. track to pieces.

20.Royal Flush “Family Problems” (Blunt, 1997) Incredible story.

Comments for "We're Not Done Yet - 20 Bonus Tracks"

  1. I know this is trite, but as far as overlooked Biggie tracks go, does “Niggas Bleed” count? I love that shit, I think it’s one of the best stories on wax EVER! Anyway, I never hear it mentioned outside of the people I know as one of Big’s best, what do y’all think?

    TSF    Feb 16, 03:26 PM
  2. love that Styles P song

    David    Feb 16, 03:57 PM
  3. I’ve heard people biggin up “Niggas Bleed” since it came out but I live near New York City so maybe my perspective is skewed.

    R.H.S.    Feb 16, 04:22 PM
  4. ^^^

No, in my experience, “Niggas Bleed” has received high praise out West, down South, and in the Midwest.

Most have it as the best song on Life After Death and perhaps his best song.

    eauhellzgnaw    Feb 16, 04:32 PM
  5. Niggas Bleed is the sort of track that deserves a feature or at least a full post. Excellent and worth discussing but hardly overlooked or under appreciated.

I had a couple of late 80’s jams that just missed my top 10, I’ll let you marinate on the current selection and put them up once you’ve caught up.

    Sach    Feb 16, 04:49 PM
  6. “Kind of like how BDK impersonators on the East Coast still made good records on occasion…”

Wasn’t Threat from the West Coast though?

    Jaz    Feb 16, 07:13 PM
  7. “And an additional verse courtesy of Nas”

    Um, what did I miss?

And Jaz, I think the implication might have been that Threat was a Cube impersonator of sorts, maybe.

    Fletch    Feb 16, 09:20 PM
  8. fucking sendspace.

    k    Feb 16, 11:33 PM
  9. NO! Fuck sendspace!!!! I could wait another few days if you uploaded them in the same fashion you did the first 30 or so songs.

    g    Feb 16, 11:36 PM
  10. this looks to be my favorite salvo of them all.

    the b(onus) side wins again

    thanks

    Jay B    Feb 17, 01:19 AM
  12. Could a kind soul who already downloaded this up it to a different service than sendspace and share the link?

    R.H.S.    Feb 17, 02:19 AM
  13. God praise you for posting the Threat song. Sickinnahead is a classic, perfect album that cannot be legitimately criticized (prove me wrong). I hope you re-up this, I need to hear the De La shit.

    d. b. cooper    Feb 17, 04:35 AM
  14. one big hug to you and yours

  16. Hi, it is a great pleasure to listen again to some hip hop classics and to discover new(old) incredible tracks i’ve never had a chance to hear before. Thanks for sharing all that and bravo for “the 37 chanmbers” blog. Is there anyway to download the Bonus tacks goodie bag ?

    phantomftheradio    Feb 18, 10:51 AM
  17. =)

    sankofa    Feb 18, 02:40 PM
  18. thanks for posting all those tunes! and yes, threat is from l.a.

    aktual    Feb 18, 08:54 PM
  19. 1. Did anyone catch this before sendspace took it down? If so, can you PLEASE reupload to another service and post the link? I did not upload the individual files, I figured this last treat could take a little less effort than the others.

    2. I was insinuating that Threat sounded very obviously like an Ice Cube impersonator.

    3. This isn’t the last 20 selections of our lsit of 50. If you look at the entries from last week you’ll notice that all 5 entries of ten plus a link to all 50 songs were posted.

    4. I mean that the version of Back to the Grille Again had an additional verse from O.C., not Nas.

    R.H.S.    Feb 18, 08:57 PM
  20. for those of you who are into threat check this:

Couldn’t use sharebee because the file is over 100mb so it’s on sendspace again.

Later on tonight I’ll probably make the individual files zshare links.

    deej    Feb 20, 07:02 AM
  27. Great tracks. Thanks a lot. Really like Mr Lucci’s ‘Slab’ (#47) but the file seems corrupt as i-tunes says it’s 13.42 long yet it cuts out halfway (just before Lucci’s last verse), anyone got a clean copy they can upload? Keep up the good work. Hearing great tunes u missed out on is real cool.

    Throbbo    Feb 21, 10:48 PM
  28. Isn’t that version of ‘Back To The Grille Again’ on the b-side of one the 1992 Def Jam 12” remixes? Thanks for the great run of tracks!

    jason    Mar 15, 03:23 PM
