Little heard mid 90's Pete Rock Remix · by Sach O

Possibly the most appealing thread title I’ve ever posted
Akhenaton – La Face B (Pete Rock remix)

Nope, no half-assed blends or reused beats, it’s a real lost 1995 Pete Rock remix. Only catch is it’s for French legend Akhenaton instead of some obscure American act. Not too many details on the origins of this track, but one can assume that AKH was raking in the dough as France’s biggest emcee and decided to have his music validated by a credible NYC tastemaker for his second single. Soul Brother #1 meanwhile didn’t exactly go out of his way to dig up new samples, flipping the same Nautilus loop as Tribe and Jeru before going into some vibe-heavy chops and dusty drums. It’s not a revelation of the Ultimate Force caliber but it all comes together lovely, making it a great secret weapon for your next PR mixtape.

  2. I can comment: They are horrible. They’re to France as Anticon is to the US only whiter.

  3. Every French rap head I know always said MC Solaar was horrible too, the Fresh Prince pop rap king, but I’ve enjoyed his records even while admittedly understanding very little of what he’s saying. He’s no match for IAM though.

  4. yeah, i’ve always heard from french folk that IAM and NTM are the ones. And the fonky family. Akhenaton was in IAM i believe.

  5. he still is. their new album (the 5th) is due in April.

TTC was a funny act a few years ago, with their first album. they’re getting ridiculous and boring now.

MC Solaar was good, then flopped because of a pop attitude the hip hop heads didn’t like. he remains one of the very best lyricists in french rap, alongside Oxmo Puccino, Fabe, Akhenaton, Shurik’N, Rocé and a few others.

thanks for the remix by the way.
