Just this morning I read about a cool service called Dapper that lets you aggregate and syndicate content from all over the web in all kinds of interesting ways.
I said recently that I’d like to see an RSS feed for Spine Magazine’s Daily News items. So I just created one with Dapper.
This isn’t an ideal solution for a few reasons. For one thing, the html in the feed does not include Spine’s links. So you’ll have to go visit the Spine page for them.
That problem is compounded by the fact that Spine news items don’t have a distinct url and Dapper doesn’t give an option to have the posts themselves link back to the Spine page – instead they link back to Dapper. But the person I exchanged emails with at Dapper agreed that having the page’s url be the default when there are no item url’s is a good idea and will be added to the feature request list.
Still for now this RSS feed will be useful for any of you who want to know when Spine has new Daily News items up and what they say. But you’ll still have to visit the site on your own to use the links within those Daily News items.
Makeshift Spine Magazine RSS feed:

Rafi, you’re a gentleman and a scholar. What did the dudes @ Spine say when you hit them up?

They didn’t reply when I emailed them in january suggesting they create a feed.
I haven’t hit them up about this today but I will in a minute.

Shame they won’t get up on the technology, I’ve embraced the RSS newsfeed on RapReviews and if anything I’m looking for MORE ways to put it to good use – and Rafi didn’t even e-mail me to suggest it! :)

I have NEVER understood why Spine’s news page hasn’t been reconfigured into a blog format with permalinks for posts, commenting etc. That ish would be competitive with and maybe even bigger than Nah Right.

FYI,
After emailing them yesterday, Tomes replied and told me that they’re going to be doing a redesign which will incorporate RSS.
Also he seemed pretty excited about the creation of the feed above.
Good stuff.

A very good and sophisticated article.

hey, we’ve recently relaunched spine magazine. its still using rss but we’ve changed it to use more html than all flash (we got a lot of heavy feedback regards that).
we’ve added in permalinks to the news & reviews section. comments – we’re not sure about, thats something for another meeting with the crew.
cheers,
