A topic that is near and dear to me: The Wanderers vs The Warriors. In related news, this guy is trying to track down real Baldies and Ducky Boys for a documentary on old Bronx gangs. Awesome.

See what’s up with our old friend Bless 1

Regrets, he’s had a few rio tells us about ten times he’s been way wrong with an opinion about hip-hop. He could also regret that post title because it doesn’t sell this excellent piece at all. See Copyblogger for counsel on good headlines.

A great blog on urban decay (link via sneakmove).

XXL blogs finishes its first year. Tara reflects. Bol reflects.

XXL site gets redesigned. Redesign gets reflected on and reflected on again.

Is the “down low” phenomenon a media invention?

My favorite line in Brandon’s Rap Music and Experimental Music post was “I sort of wish one of those anthologies like the Dave Eggers-edited ‘The Best American Non-Required Reading’ anthologies existed for the best web-based rap writing.” I’ve sort of wished that many times myself. Lets compile one Brandon. It’ll be of no use to anyone but who cares.

Why CD sales are tanking

Heavy.com and other skeevy viral marketers are a bunch of phonies.

Sadly, I’ve only seen Watermelon Man but I’m still interested in this documentary about Melvin Van Peebles.

Synchronicity! Download the soundtrack to Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song.

Happy St Pattie’s Day from 33 third jones and Slushy Gutter. Given the snow falling outside right now and the parade of drunks that will be hitting NYC some people will be getting to know the “slushy gutter” very well this weekend.

  1. Though we both get our names from NY street addresses, 33Jones is not the same as 33third. As always, I appreciate the link love though.

    Slainte.

  2. Regarding the documentary on Melvin Van Peebles, How to Eat Your Watermelon in White Company (and Enjoy It), you’ll soon be in luck: the DVD comes out June 5. And if you get IFC, check their site as the film will be rebroadcast periodically over the next year. (It premiered Feb 15.) In the meantime, you can get a sneak peak at the film’s website. Hit us with your feedback; we’d love to hear!

  7. In regards to stretch armstrong’s blog I wrote this:

I’m not sending you my tapes man. When I sat up for 4 hours in the middle of the night taping those shows, I earned those tapes. Sometimes I was coming into high school Friday mornings on no sleep, tired as hell if I wasn’t blunted. Look, what you’re doing is a good thing- putting these shows up for all to grab, but I can’t part with my tapes. I don’t know if you’re on some sendback shit with the tapes, hell if I still had a tape to tape system, I’d send a dub because the quality of my tapes are that good. Shit, I just can’t be sending you those tapes Stretch. It’s mementos of my adolescence and I remember each of those nights vividly when I see those tapes. Some of those nights I don’t want to remember, but fuck it them shits are on tape. Ok peace. Do your thing. You aren’t getting my tapes though.

lol that clay aiken photo looks like this dude who lived in the next building over at my old apartment complex.
