Sundance Outtake: Interview with Four Eyed Monsters · by Rafi Kam

Over at Internets Celebrities we just posted an interview with Four Eyed Monsters. Four Eyed Monsters is the creative name of a film-making couple that used the internet to generate interest in their feature film after being featured at Slamdance couldn’t land the project any distribution.

This interview isn’t much like the other Sundance clips you’ve seen because it is informative but it is informative. Indie musicians can learn a lot from how Susan and Arin created new paths to reach people and emboldened their audience to make noise on their behalf. A great lesson in how to e-hustle effectively.

This is especially relevant this week because YouTube selected the Four Eyed Monsters feature film to be the first feature length movie to run at their site.

Meeting these guys that night really changed our time out there and to an extent even our perspective ever since. We were all super-impressed by their focus and their fearlessness in leaping over to new technology in order to get their material seen. Because they were so early to adopt video blogging they had a huge leg up when iTunes and MySpace were hungry for videos. That can get you a lot of first looks but it’s quality that kept their viewers coming back.

Oh, and in post-production we gave our giddy cameraman (and Four-Eyed Monsters fanboy) Ian a lot of crap about the Susan butt shot. Keep an eye out for it.
