New name same great game · by Sach O

Take that Take that!

A few particularly astute readers noticed that my post ID’s have gone from my government “Sacha Orenstein” to the shorter and less informative Sach O. What gives you might ask? Am I renouncing my heritage? Why backtrack now? Was it the insults in the Rick Ross post? (Still my personal favorite post ever)

None of that.

First of all, I can count the people that call me “Sacha” in real life on one hand. About 4 family members and one ex-girlfriend. To everyone else, I’m Sach so why not keep it that way online? And if I’m gonna shorten that part, might as well go all the way: Sach O sounds like the kind of rap-ready pen name that’ll get me writing for magazines baby pa. Kind of like Jaz-O without the stigma of being 40 and broke. A more pressing concern is the fact that I’m looking for a couple of jobs outside the rap industry and in this sinister age, employers tend to do background checks. While I’m sure you guys all understand my angry rants and occasional slurs are perfectly normal reactions to the state of rap today, some people might not take the time to appreciate the context of my words. Hence, a pen name. I ain’t trying to get Imused out the game but I ain’t trying to tone it down either.

Finally, I get to follow in the footsteps of such revered entertainers as Puff Daddy, Prince, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, MF Doom and half of the Wu-Tang clan. Rebranding: it’s what’s for dinner.

well at least your government isn’t attached to “cocaineblunts.” i wish i would’ve thought of a pen name years ago.

but sach o? seriously this dude probably just started listening to rap last year.

I took a nom de plume years ago too when I chose to write for a notorious left leaning weekly paper. It was a good idea considering that I was just freelancing at the time. It’s too often a prospective employer will look at the magazine or newspaper you wrote for as a way to decide what kind of copy you’re going to produce.

I take it it’s the years of experience that lead to enlightening statements such as “T.I is this generation’s Big Daddy Kane”?

  4. talk about stripping context. i believe that statement was preceded by an “if.” predictable bias from the ohword others.

  5. What can I say? We can’t all be XXL’s bounce nerd slash raer-gangsta rap cheerleader. Some of us will forever be “others”, living by stripping dumb statements of their context.

But there are worst things in life…. like writing about forgotten Suave House promos no one really gives two shits about to an audience of regional dickriders bent on posting “first”.

  6. I always thought Sacha was more gangsta anyway. Sounds like the name of a Russian mobster with an axe to grind who drinks vodka like water.

  7. males shouldn’t be jealous that’s a female trait.

and i’ve never written about suave house in my life.

  8. Ain’t no jealousy. But speaking of female traits, since you’re already being passive-aggressive, maybe you could write a teary eyed rant about it and then hastily retract it. Win win, we get pub, and you get to maybe compete with Bol and Billy Sunday in terms of entertainment value. On a bad day.

    Sach    Jun 29, 01:54 AM
  9. ^ teary eyed rant, but the truth comes out.

i jokingly paraphrase that racist commentator. you try to run with it to get some free pub. it’s pathetic. especially when i’ve given this site nothing but support since it’s inception. (see also: another sometimes ohword contributer who’s work i generally supported flying off the handle a few weeks ago)

rap blogging is out of control.

  11. The sexual tension in this thread is so thick, it was just offered the cover of King magazine.

Would you two just do a different kind of “back-packing” and be done with it already?

    Rafi    Jun 30, 04:16 AM
  12. Yeah, reading that was like walking in on grandma in the shower.

    Robbie    Jun 30, 04:18 AM
