The crowd for MF Doom at the Paid Dues stage.
So there we were in the press pit all day long, I was snapping away with my trusty 1971 Pentax Spotmatic pretending to be a real photographer with my XXL credential (good looking out eskay!).
Here are some photos of Rakim I took… Click for the larger versions.
I’d like to share more of the photos I took in the press pit but unfortunately my old camera decided on this day that it would rather destroy film than transfer images to it. So all I got is about 2 dozen of the 100 film photos I snapped that day – mostly Rakim, a little Felt and Living Legends. But really only the Rakim photos came out dope.
Fortunately Dallas rocked the digital pocket camera so I do have some more pics to share. Click for bigger version…

Nope john, sorry.
Didn’t get any performances on video except Rakim but the audio didn’t come out right.
Press wasn’t allowed to shoot video at all. We had to sneak Cas into the pit for the Rakim footage he got. But security caught on after a few minutes.

Scary but true fact – I actually know Bassey Ipki. She and I used to post on the same internet BBS but she had long since disappeared by the time she got on Def Poetry. These days she probably wouldn’t know me from the average cracker on the street – I could actually be that guy in the photo.
