Prodigy - I Know · by Sach O

Take a ride in my oldschool bumpin that oldschool
Prodigy – I Know

Ohword isn’t exactly fucking with Nah Right or Spine (whom this post jacks) when it comes to exclusives and up to the minute coverage of today’s rap scene, but from time to time we’re reminded that there’s actually something worth covering amid schizo T.I albums and ol’ time hoe-down dance crazes.

Case in point, 2007 comeback kid Prodigy’s newest collaboration with Alchemist “I Know”: a dope rap song that dropped out of nowhere. Proving that Return of the Mac (still my pick for album of the year but who’s counting?) was no fluke, the skinnier half of Mobb Deep continues to use his laconic adult flow to his advantage by rhyming to equally sedate tracks. Now Mobb Deep’s attempts at catering to the ladies are usually comically inept but this one is closer to highlights like “Can’t Complain“ thanks to Al’s relaxed loop and Prodigy’s descriptive lyrics which speak on living in the city, his woman’s finer taste and his choice of classic material (Jay-Z and Nas? REALLY?). The major key chorus isn’t quite there if you ask me but I’m not going to complain considering the garbage that’s been floating around lately.

I’m not holding my breath for HNIC2 to drop but I am patiently waiting. At least it’s slated for Koch which gives it a decent chance of getting a release date for mid 08’.
