You Already Know What It Is: Album releases for August 28 · by Oh Word

Aesop Rock – None Shall Pass

None shall buy this fucking record.
- Arlene

Madlib – Beat Konducta Vol. 3 & 4

Otis and Kumar go to White Castle.

The ghost of George Harrison just called. It wants its India fetish back.
- Rafi

Young Joc – Hustlenomics

I’m going to get serious for a minute here. I like rap that is ignorant as fuck. I don’t know why, I just do. That being said, how in the name of all holy fuck did Young Joc get signed to anything? I’ve never heard anything remotely interesting come out of his mouth, and a label actually let him try it again? Is this a fucking joke? And what is with the album cover? Joc what the fuck are you trying to do, here? We know you’re a joke you didn’t need to try this hard, son. I’m sort of in shock about all of this because I was positive he was the second coming of J-Kwon. PLEASE GO AWAY WITH HIM, JOC MY FRIEND!
- Arlene

Akon – Konvicted (deluxe edition with 3 new tracks and DVD)

I already hated Akon enough but now he’s pulling this shit. No one cares about your life as a nasaly convict. Every time I hear this dude sing, a piece of me dies inside. I would rather listen to the Black Eyed Peas, Kevin Federline and G-Child form a super group and release a triple disc than this bug-eyed fuckhead’s ‘new’ album of already released shit I didn’t care about the first time it was forced down my throat. DIE SLOW.
- Arlene

Raekwon presents Icewater – Polluted Water

The last time Raekwon tried to branch out to something other than MC’ing it was an acting role in the 1999 shitfest Black and White. One hopes that Rae executive producing this group of post-millenial Wu weed carriers will fare better than that viable candidate for the worst movie of all time.

But face the facts, this cd will be a coaster. Only Built 4 Humid Drinks.
- Rafi

Horse the Band – A Natural Death
what
- Arlene

Northern State – Can I Keep This Pen?

NO. NO YOU MAY NOT HAVE ANY PENS EVER! And you aren’t allowed to have microphones, computers, megaphones or anything that allows you to make noise. You can stop it forever, young ladies!!!!!
- Arlene

Super Furry Animals – Hey Venus!
Oh. Wow. The Super Furry Animals released an album. Called Hey Venus! I can’t get over how original and awesome clever that is. And the cover. Man that is art. Wow I am excited.
- Arlene

Strong Arm Steady – Deep Hearted

I feel like this should be an album about fisting. I refuse to give this a listen because I don’t want to be wrong.
- Arlene

Blockhead – Uncle Tony’s Coloring Book

I would buy this strictly to color in the album cover. Excellent marketing strategy, ol chap. It worked on me.
- Arlene

N.O.R.E. – Noreality

NORE CAN DO NO WRONG. HE MADE A HOT SONG USING ONE FUCKING WORD. I SUGGEST YOU FALL IN LINE.
- Arlene

    lee    Aug 29, 01:37 PM

  5. the short review team? do they ride on a short bus too? haha j/k
like the reviews on aes and madlib a lot so to the point. why is northern state still signed? did people actually buy those bitches albums?

    Jay B    Aug 29, 01:46 PM
  6. Really like this new weekly review series, although it is vaguely depressing the dross that gets let loose on the world this time around (apart from that Blockhead, liked the track I heard from that).

The idea of Arlene fisting had me sweating over my keyboard… in a good way. Is that wrong?

    Laters

yung smithee    Aug 29, 03:46 PM
  10. This was a good post. It would have been a good post whether or not anal fisting was mentioned, but hell what do I know, I actually listen to hip hop music and all…

    R.H.S.    Aug 29, 04:43 PM
  11. Only Built 4 Humid Drinks…Wow, that should be a name of a blog.

    DocZeus    Aug 29, 06:24 PM
  12. love this series.

    a-one    Aug 29, 07:24 PM
  13. You are fucking wrong about the Aesop album, but I would expect this kind of ignorance from the wackness that is Philaflava.

    drugmaster    Aug 30, 04:23 AM
  14. i mainly just come back for the quality of the hating.

    — anemes    Aug 30, 07:57 AM
  15. It’s a nice change of pace to go from hating any rap that’s not ten years old to hating any genre that isn’t rap. Good looks, Oh Word.

    Stunt    Aug 30, 09:51 AM
  16. this entry is hilarious, but the new aes rock record is dope. some of his best work in years.

    — shark week    Aug 30, 12:23 PM
  17. OB4HD!!!

ron mexico    Aug 30, 01:41 PM
  18. “None shall buy this fucking record. – Arlene”

but just in case, here’s an ad for amazon.com.

    coolout    Aug 30, 07:14 PM
  19. Funny post but if you actually like hip hop with any testosterone you’re doins yourself(no homo) a disservice by not hearing that strong arm stead cd, Mitchy Slick > whatever new rapper you listen to.

Yeah I said it    Aug 30, 07:15 PM
  20. LMAO at most of this, especially the “OB4HD” and the “None shall buy this fucking record.” It’s true…shit, I liked the album quite a bit and I doubt I’ll pick it up.

    Train    Aug 31, 12:42 AM
  21. Mitchy Slick & Aesop DP’ing that broad Arlene > Arlene giving her 2 cents on Hip Hop.

    BoomboxKnocks    Aug 31, 01:23 PM
  22. Noreality isn’t good, he lost his swagger and humor. Though it has its moments. And what were you trying to say about the Madlib? Will I like it if I loved the last Beat Konducta?

    Tray    Aug 31, 05:14 PM
  23. yep. that aesrok record is his most groovy & palatable, beatwise and im happy to say it’ll be fun digesting the flow for monthes to come. i couldnt do that with any of his other records cus the songs didn’t speak to me as well as he did

    hamadi    Aug 31, 09:00 PM
  24. hamadi sucks at opinions.

    — arlene    Sep 5, 01:06 AM
  25. Funny shit. Pretty horrendous release week, but I guess that lead to more hilarity in the long run anyway.

    B. Ware tha Siniq    Sep 5, 04:39 PM
  26. This week is even worse. Post coming tomorrow.
