You Already Know What It Is - 9/18 releases · by Oh Word

Most humans only use 10% of their brains. With You Already Know What It Is we are daring to use an extra 2-3% by assessing music without hearing it.

In a way, you could say this makes us 20-30% better than you.

Chamillionaire – Ultimate Victory

Chamillionaire challenges his audience with another overdramatic album title, while cleverly dangling a Slick Rick guest verse in front of rap curmudgeons.
- David

Twista – Adrenaline Rush 2007

The not-at-all-awaited sequel to an album you didn’t even know existed.
- Rafi

Havoc – Kush

According to wikipedia: “The decline of Kush is a hotly debated topic. A diplomatic mission in Nero’s reign travelled to Meroë; (Pliny the Elder, N.H. 6.35). After the second century AD the royal tombs began to shrink in size and splendour, and the building of large monuments seems to have ceased. The royal pyramid burials halted altogether in the middle of the fourth century AD. The archeological record shows a cultural shift to a new society known as the X-Group, or Ballana culture.”

According to niggas at the barbershop: “Nobody wants to hear an album of just Havoc rapping.”
-R.H.S.

Percee P – Perseverance

Amongst Percy Miller (Master P), Percy Chapman (Tragedy Khadafi) and Percy Carey (MF Grimm), John Percy Simon (Percee P) is hardly alone when it comes to the name “Percy” in hip-hop… However he is the only one without the good sense to take on a more masculine rap name.
- Rafi

And the only one whose mailing address reads: “The Gray’s Papaya under Fat Beats, 2nd Booth”.
- R.H.S.

Rick Ross – Rise to Power

Someone thought it was a good idea to name this collection of early Rick Ross material after the universally panned, straight-to-video prequel to Carlito’s Way. It’s questionable whether prequel albums or movies are a good idea at all, but I would have gone with Trap-Man Begins.
- Rafi

KT Tunstall – Drastic Fantastic

While still named similarly to PJ Harvey, this new album cover shows KT Tunstall suddenly looking like Liz Phair and stroking her giant guitar phallus, thereby reminding me exactly of a dream I had in 1995. I’m in!
- Rafi

High School Musical 2 Karaoke

Includes everything your child needs to emulate their High School Musical favorites: microphone, digital camera, hotel reservation, vodka, MySpace account.
- Rafi

U2 – Popmart (DVD)

Post-sincerity Bono smirks and spreads his ass for a giant orange phallus, thereby reminding me exactly of a dream I had in 1993. I’ve left that life behind me… pass!
- Rafi

Can You Flow? to Rap’s Biggest Hits

This cd is also available as bonus (with “rap sheet”) packaged with the re-release of Alfonso Ribeiro’s 1985 book Breakin’ and Poppin’

- Rafi

Paul Potts – One Chance

The debut album by Paul Potts – a schlub with a golden voice that melted the judge’s hearts on the tv show Britain’s Got Talent. Not to be confused with the documentary Pol Pot’s One Chance, a guy who also aimed to elevate the common man but with far less “feel-good” results.
- Rafi

Guerilla Black – God Bless the Child

Isn’t it a bit ironic to title your album after a line that ends “who’s got his own” when you’re mainly known for sounding like someone else? Instead of continuing to inflict damage on mankind through his music, GB should be working on his Fox Searchlight audition tape for the Biggie biopic. That project won’t be any better for mankind but at least Guerilla could see some money off it.
- Rafi

The Alliance – Goin Digital

Album cover art will be made available … once the Alliance are finished with the arduous process of goin digital.
- R.H.S.

Comments for "You Already Know What It Is - 9/18 releases"

  1. I’m betting the real Alliance are turning in their graves right now. We need “Fish Heads 2007” right now.

  7. I didn’t really want to hear another album of GB rapping either but one of the RR staffers gave it high praise.

  8. This is one of my favorite features… if it’s not already your plan, you should do this every Tuesday on the week’s new hip-hop and related releases. :)
