Ever since Kool Herc scribbled “Enshrine 1520 Sedgewick as epicenter of new global youth culture” right under “Go to bodega & buy milk & bread” on a scrap of paper secured to his mother’s refrigerator with an “I [Heart] NY” magnet, lists have played a vital role in the evolution of hip hop. Think about it. Smooth Da Hustler’s “Broken Language. Kool Moe Dee’s rapper report card. The Ten Crack Commandments. ODB’s globalized shout-outs at the end of “I Can’t Wait.” All lists, all hip hop. Okay, so Kool Moe’s report card is more of a multi-dimensional array but you get the point.
We’re deep in the list game, and our year-end lists from ‘05 and ‘06 were pretty much your only sanctuary from typical blogospheric balderdash like “The Top Ten Lil’ Wayne Similes That Made Us Giggle Like Schoolgirls,” “50,000 Atlanta Rappers I Think Are Better Than Rakim,” and “The Top Ten Unspeakable Atrocities We Blamed On Rap Music.” We intend to post our ’07 wrap up some time before the Ides of March, but I’m fresh out of ideas and Rafi is too busy picking out bowties for tonight’s Stand Up Sit Down Show to be bothered, so we are asking you, the incredible OhWord readership, to submit your suggestions for our year-end lists. There’s a thread at our Ning.com community ready and waiting. Remember, we live for the snark and we die for the snark, pledging allegience to nothing but the snark.
I’d really like to see you guys put together a list of your favorite blogs that you frequent.
— JayPer Dec 7, 01:35 AM
Hip-Hop related of course.
— JayPer Dec 7, 01:38 AM
In all likelihood we will provide lists pertaining to hip-hop blogging, such as our favorite posts from the past year.
I can’t speak for everyone here but I’m not much of a fanboy when it comes to blogs – I prefer to give credit where it’s due on a per-post basis. That being said we do have a link list to the right and certain blogs do frquently appear in “Around The Horn” so make of that what you will.

As long as mixtapes aren’t on any Best Albums list, I’m cool.
— DocZeus Dec 7, 03:52 PM
as typical as it is, i do want to see what your top 25 albums of the year will be.
— VastAR Dec 7, 04:08 PM
25??? There were 25 albums worth listening to this year?
— R.H.S. Dec 7, 04:15 PM
Yeah, I don’t know about twenty-five, but somewhere on that list needs to be-
Scarface-Made
Wu-Tang Clan-8 Diagrams
EL-P-I’ll Sleep When You’re Dead
— Jay B Dec 7, 04:47 PM
how about the top 5 examples of using the phrase “concept album” to say the same stuff you’ve been rapping about for years, but with less gusto?
— bding7 Dec 7, 07:42 PM
How about top ten sentences penned by Tom Breihan using the word “synths” as its centerpiece? Of course the research for this may take until next year’s list.
— rkm Dec 7, 09:28 PM
How about going to all the hip-hop blogs, checking out their year-end top ten lists (top ten albums, artists, events… whatever they made lists of), and pick your top ten Top Ten Lists. =)

Abe Beame: Hahaha, word. That shit is hilariously overused.
Why don’t Nah Right or the Smoking Section have a forum already?
— AaronM Dec 10, 01:47 PM
Nah Right already is a chat room.
