Rap-blogger retirements are one of the few things that make rapper retirements sound interesting so I’ll be brief: I’m outta here like Diamond D and KRS-ONE running a Marathon. Where to? Lots of places, most of them sunny. In addition to living the good life (that Kanye album will sound a lot sweeter on vacay) I’ll still be writing but the focus is on film scripts and other top secret stuff that’ll probably make it’s way to a viewing public down the line. I wish I could have contributed a bit more to the site for these past few months, but it was hard enough to handle a year’s worth of B.I AND figure out where I was going without having to comment on the emergence of Soulja Boy or defend 8 Diagrams (to quote that crazy bitch, y’all don’t deserve Rza).

So to all of the readers and commenters have a great 08 filled with lots of new dances, “smh” inspiring fashion trends and expletive filled debates about Hip Hop’s life-span or lack of.

Shout outs to the following:

Rafi Kham: Gonna miss the brainstorming sessions. Internet Celebrities are gonna do it big in 08’!

RHS: Going to miss reading the sonnings. Space Rap’s gonna be big in 08’

agent B: Going to miss the artwork, but the music is coming with me on the iPod. Robotobots>Transformers

Dallas Penn: Even if you probably want to kill me for never getting that shout rap article to ya, forcing you to write it yourself. The truth of the matter is that I never really knew that much about the origins/traditions of the stuff.

Jeff Weiss: One of the few people making sense of music in these foul years.

Maura@Idolator: I probably shouldn’t have included the drunken rant at the end of my critics poll submission, but it’s more fun that way.

And peace to everyone else I’m forgetting right now.

PS: If it’s not too much to ask, can someone make sure Cormega, Lil Fame, Dr Dre, Raekwon and Saigon drop their albums by the time I come back?

Dang… your general lack of posts here in recent months told me this was coming, but still, it’s a bummer to hear you confirm you won’t be contributing any more.

No offense to the other OW writers, but I followed you to this blog from your old Chungking Express days, and your stuff was what I looked out for first. And we still didn’t get to hear your thoughts on the new Wu! (though “y’all don’t deserve Rza” indicates where you stand, ie, on the side that recognises it for the masterpiece it clearly is),
