OHHLA Logo Redesign Contest - $150 Prize to the Winner · by Rafi Kam
As I’ve blogged before, I’ve been working on an overhaul of OHHLA as a side job for a while now.
I’m up to the part where I need to start putting a front-end on my application and so for a while I’ve been bugging two of my favorite artists, first agent b (who has been busy with his new site The Minus World) and then vee (scratch of scritch and scratch), to redo the OHHLA logo.
Both of these fine gents have extremely full plates right now though and I need a new look for this website asap. To me that starts with the logo. Perhaps you know the current one. It has the word OHHLA with a b-boy frozen in time mid-windmill above it.
Or at least OHHLA owner DJ Flash assures us it’s a b-boy dancing. For accuracy, I prefer agent b’s description that it looks like an ostrich copulating with a manatee.
My suggestion that we remove the dancer and simply focus on the site name was frowned upon, but Flash is open to a logo redesign if it’s built upon the same elements of site name plus dancer.
So I turn to you, our talented audience. If any of you can whip up a sweet logo in the next few days, please do so and post it here. If I end up using your logo, there will be a prize of $150.

Thats pretty cool Thijs. Even the small one is kind of tall for a site logo though.
Where did the dancer image come from?
I see some other cool stuff on your flickr account too. I’ll have to explore further later on.

yeah i thought it’d probably be too big if it has to fit the same site dimensions.
As for the image, i sampled it from the public domain, haha. I can make an original photo and redo it, but i need to get my friend-of-a-friend b-girl to pose for it.

so … what if you used the letters to form a b-boy poppin? i have no artistic talent … but the O is the head, the h and a backwards h could be the body/arms, and do something funky with the l and the a as legs … some one who reads this site is clever/creative enough to give it a shot…

Here’s my try. Hope I’m not too late. I opted to pitch DJ Flash and yourself this option because I think the turntable speaks more to lyrics than a Bboy image. No disrespect to the current BBoy image. Being that it’s still an element of Hip Hop, it’s not too far fetched:

Yup, I did also one, or actually four, but they’re constructed from the same elements. So it’s four layouts. Hopefully I’m not late, though since the contest has been open like for 2 weeeks or something.

Sadly, the consensus is that none of these will work better than my revamping of the current logo posted in the first comment. It was Steve’s favorite of the bunch.
However we enjoyed seeing your work and I was particularly impressed with what’s going on in the flickr account of thijs and also some of the stuff at Lexx’s MySpace page.
Some nice talent up in here for sure.
