Last week, occasional Oh Word contributor Dan Love put out a mix of Pete Rock breaks and beats. The mix received a small but warm reception, and could be called a critical success, earning reviews along the lines of “nice” “dope mix!” and “Big ups”.

But in a recent interview, Pete Rock has said he hears his untouched snares out there in the mix, for instance in the last half of this snippet.

“I feel that’s lazy shit,” said the legendary producer.

Hear it for yourself and weigh in. Is Dan Love talking about his beat-stealing ways when he refers to himself as “a little lazy” in the From Da Bricks post?

Why is it lazy? Cause he didn’t have to go out and search for the original record in a record store? That he could download it in 60 seconds? I understand the scope of experience with coming from the old school but its 2008…everything is easier. Pete’s hatin’ cause the mix was dope.

Dan Love is expressing a common blogger illness which occurs when you don’t post for your peeps.

Without a doubt it’s lazy. It’s like buying a car with a bodykit/custom turbo etc, then upgrading the wheels, and saying you did it all from scratch.
