ABC: Crime has left New Orleans (along with the black people) · by Rafi Kam

About a week ago, I stopped after work at Jeff’s Cuisine in Norwalk, CT for some dinner. I sat at the counter eating some ridiculously good gumbo when a news story about New Orleans came on the wall-mounted TV.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, apparently New Orleans Crime has moved to other cities. In this ABC news story we hear from near-giddy police about how safe the city has become and reports that nearby cities have good reason to panic now that the criminal element has shown up.

A few things really didn’t sit well with me about this here story. For one, if you’re going to report on a statistical change give me the big picture. What percentage of the New Orleans pre-Katrina population is back in the city. Are the stats down on every other life occurence as well? After all we have fewer people in the city and more people doing post-Katring cleanup like scraping mold from the walls of their soggy house.

It isn’t going to be a surprise to anyone that violent crime (and yes New Orleans typically has had very high figures there) is more common among the poorest demographic which New Orleans evacuees are known to be. But do we need to hear a news story spinning things this way as if all the evacuees are criminals and reinforcing America’s racist assumptions?

The mainstream media shouldn’t even be allowed to do a story like this without a reminder that they themselves irresponsibly reported hundreds of imaginary murders and rapes by the bloodthirsty blacks of New Orleans in the wake of Katrina. This record low murder rate is a real surprise because in September you were setting us up for a record high!

In the same manner that Wendy’s can now sue that lady who put the fake finger in her Chili, black Americans should be able to sue any news network that reported the unsubstantiated expectations of a panicked crowd as if they were true. Reparations are due from all the networks!

By the way what about all the people killed in New Orleans by systematic neglect and government inactivity. Don’t they get to be counted here? Can their memory at least be spared a story about how this is a great year for New Orleans deaths?

After the news story ran, New Orleans white people claimed that they’ve known that this was the way to curb the murder rate all along. Some New Orleans black professionals conceded, adding that they’ve known this too. However both sides bemoaned the lack of good local food and swinging jazz music since Katrina. Spikes of both have been observed in nearby cities and as far away as Connecticut.

I am very appauled by this article, it was hard to follow but I think the main point of it was “hi am a racist ignorant jerk” there are just as many caucaisans people who commit crimes as there are African Amearican (by the way that is the politacly correct term but you ignorant people don’t need to know all that complicated mumbojumbo any how) any ways like I was saying crime is not a color coded thing “white” people rape,kill,rob,exc., I am white and I don’t think that I am better than anyone else. I just really have a message to all you racist people…

  3. If you go by the testimonies of the New Orleans residents it seems the crime wasn’t from poor Blacks (my bad, African Americans), but from the infamous chefs and musicians.

  4. Black people equal higher crime statistics, peiod. Look at the UK and France. Niether of thier Chinese populations seem to be mugging and raping. Wake up people, smell the truth, black males by nature are more violent and stupid than the rest of humanity.
